About Me:
I graduated from Wakonda High School.  My undergraduate degree is from the University of South Dakota in English, Theatre and Education.  I obtained my Masters Degree in English from the University of South Dakota.

I have taught previously in the Mobridge School District and the Haakon School District.  I was hired in the Canton School District in August of 2005.

High School
- American Literature (Semester One)
This course will examine literature as a natural progression of the country and how fiction and non-fiction can be utilized to represent that progression.  Students will study a variety of time periods and the literature associated with those time periods.  Vocabulary, writing and literary analysis will be used to focus the exploration of the following units: 
          *Unit 1 -- Civil War Literature
          *Unit 2 -- Native American Teaching Myths
          *Unit 3 -- The Gilded Age:  Spoonriver Anthology
          *Unit 4 -- To Kill a Mockingbird
          *Unit 5 -- Of Mice and Men

- English 3 (Semester Two)
This course consists of a study toward American society using novels, drama, and other literature. Students will also develop skills to enhance written expression by first learning and practicing the writing process and then by writing a variety of papers, which include literary analysis, comparison, persuasion, and research. 

          *Unit 1 -- World War II (Holocaust Novels -- Persuasive Writing
          *Unit 2 -- McCarthyism (The Crucible and Puritans)
          *Unit 3 -- Jurassic Park
          *
Unit 4 -- Research Writing (Documented Essay)
          *Unit 5 -- Government Control (The Hunger Games)

- Modern Literature (Semester One)
This course explores the world of the future through novels.  There futuristic novels based on possible societies pose great questions of where the present generation could lead us.  Students will analyze the texts and create projects that inspire growth and change in society. The following units will be covered: 

          *Unit 1 -- Future Worlds (Review:  The Giver)
          *Unit 2 -- World Annihilation (Life As We Knew It, The Dead and the
                                        Gone, This World We Live In)
          *
Unit 3 -- Biotechnology (Unwind)
          *
Unit 4 -- Alien Invasion (Shade's Children)
          *Unit 5 -- Intergalactic War (Ender's Game)

- ENGL 101:  College Composition (Semester One)
This is a dual credit course through the Rising Scholars program at NSU.  The course is an introductory survey of college composition.  Students will submit the required Senior Memory book as well as a variety of essays and research papers that will prepare them for the university setting.  The student must meet the minimum ACT sub score of 18 in Reading and Writing and at least a proficient score on the Dakota Step Test.  The student will also be responsible for the cost of the college tuition, which will be approximately $50 per credit hour.  This course requires teacher approval.  This course is worth 3 college credits.

- SPCM 101:  College Speech (Semester Two)
