The Canton School District
The Canton School District includes the city of Canton, South Dakota, population 3,110, residential tracts and rural farms. Located in the southeast corner of South Dakota, in Lincoln County, the district encompasses 191 square miles and was established in 1870.
One of the contributors to the high quality of life in the Canton area is the Canton school system. Canton is close enough to Sioux Falls for residents to enjoy the benefits of a larger metropolitan area, but Canton is also far enough from Sioux Falls to be able to retain itself as a smaller, quiet, friendly and independent community. Canton has a great deal of pride in its school—from excellent facilities (the new high school complex was completed in 1998) to the high quality of its teaching staff, the enviable record of student achievement, both in terms of academic accomplishment and in terms of accomplishment in co-curricular activities, to the support provided by parents and other community members. The Canton School District has been recognized in the surrounding area for its commitment to small class size, especially at the elementary level. All schools have been NCA accredited since April 1, 1942 and our Community Education program was the first in the area. | ||
